Reach-Out Activities

January 16 – 17

Orientation period - Welcome to Prague!
Get to know each other and CHP staff. Orientation in the neighborhood, basic information - how to get to the program facility, where to change money, where to eat, where the best jazz clubs and cafés are... Program rules.

January 18

Core course
Introduction to the Czech culture and civilization complemented by an intensive Czech language training.

January 24

Trip to Kutna Hora
From the 14th century Kutná Hora was an important royal silver mining town with royal mint. Since 1995 Kutná Hora is on the UNESCO world heritage list. The Cathedral of St. Barbora is considered one of the most impressive gothic cathedrals in Central Europe.

January 30

Trip to Terezín
Excursion to the town of Terezín (Theresienstadt), originally an impregnable military fortress, which gained notoriety under the Nazis as the nefarious concentration camp.

February 2

Spring 2010 Session Opening buffet dinner
Informal meeting with CHP faculty.

March 23 Opera Performance in the National Theatre
The Makropulos Case – famous opera by Janáček in the historical building of the National Theatre.
March 26 Trip to Dresden
The capital of the German state Saxony, 85% of which was destroyed during the WWII. Dresden's former landmarks, such as the Frauenkirche, the Semperoper or the Zwinger were rebuilt and the city now belongs to the most beautiful towns on the Elbe River.

April 16

Trip to Ceský Krumlov
Medieval town in Southern Bohemia, one of the most beautiful destinations with a preserved historical center.

May 14
