Reach-Out Activities

Aug 29 – 30

Orientation period
Get to know each other and CHP staff. Orientation in the neighborhood, basic information - how to get to the program facility, where to change money, where to eat, where the best jazz clubs and cafés are... Program rules.

Aug 31 – Sept 15

Core course
Introduction to the Czech culture and civilization complemented by intensive Czech language training.

Sept 5

Trip to Kutna Hora
From the 14th century Kutná Hora was an important royal silver mining town with royal mint. Since 1995 Kutná Hora is on the UNESCO world heritage list. The Cathedral of St. Barbora is considered one of the most impressive gothic cathedrals in Central Europe.
Sept 12

Trip to Terezín
Excursion to the town of Terezin (Theresienstadt), originally an impregnable military fortress, which gained notoriety under the Nazis as the nefarious concentration camp.

Sept 15

Fall 2009 Session Opening dinner
Informal meeting with CHP faculty and staff.

Oct 10 Trip to Karlovy Vary
The oldest Czech spa known throughout the world by its German name Karlsbad. You can find 12 hot springs on the famous colonnade. But there is another so called 13th "spring" - Becherovka - liqueur made of nineteen different herbs, which is supposed to ease digestion.

Opera in the Estates Theatre
Rinaldo - a special opera performance aimed at evoking the poetic atmosphere of the Baroque Opera.

Oct 24

Trip to Ceský Krumlov
Medieval town in Southern Bohemia, one of the most beautiful Czech cities with an absolutely unique Baroque theatre.

Nov 26 Thanksgiving dinner
Traditional “turkey feast” with the Czech cuisine touch.

Dec 18
