Linda Gates - Visiting Professor
Linda Gates Head of Voice and Speech at Northwestern University’s Theater Department. She has authored the authoritative Voice for Performance and taught voice, speech and text analysis at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Yale School of Drama, Central School of Speech and Drama, and Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York. She has conducted classes and vocal workshops for Bada's Midsummer at Oxford program, Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford Shakespeare Theater, Accademia dell'arte, (Arezzo, Italy), The Hochschule fur Musik und Theater (Hamburg, Germany), etc. She has served as the English vocal director and coach at the Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, New York (Broadway) and Chicago.
The focus of the class is on the training and development of the actor's voice for performance with puppets. Students will work to develop performance skills in breathing, resonance, optimal pitch, vocal range, articulation, and intonation to support the development of character voices for puppet performance.Detail
